PHHP has been a leader in advancing the blended learning approach to teaching and has made important strides in pioneering a combination of online and in-person content, including interactive class activities, to enhance student learning. At the close of 2015, 67 PHHP courses were either fully or partially blended.
The college has provided students with unique opportunities to advance their education in a global setting. Students in the master’s in public health program have completed internships in Haiti, Mexico and Switzerland, and students in the One Health Certificate program traveled to Kisumu, Kenya, to conduct field research as part of a cross-national team.

Recipient of 6 NIH-funded training grants
The college rose from 19th to 15th in NIH grant funding among the top 50 accredited schools of public health, and from eighth to seventh among the 15 public AAU universities. PHHP investigators are working on research projects close to home and in countries throughout the world on a diverse range of topics, including autism, the analysis of big data, concussions, dementia, diabetes screening, driving safety, modeling infectious diseases, muscular dystrophy, nutrition and obesity, rehabilitation following traumatic injuries, respiratory rehabilitation, smoking cessation, speech development, substance use, swallowing disorders, toxicology, and vaccine efficacy.

PHHP provides clinical, professional and community service at the local, national and international levels. The department of speech, language, and hearing sciences offers services at several UF Health locations. The department of clinical and health psychology provides psychological services for the entire Health Science Center and UF Health Physicians practices. HealthStreet, a program that works to reduce disparities in health care and research, is expanding its work to Florida’s Putnam and Union counties, thanks to a new three-year $300,000 grant from the Florida Blue Foundation. Students in physical therapy, occupational therapy and clinical and health psychology are active in Equal Access Clinics, providing care for local residents who are uninsured or underinsured. The college’s unique approach to international service — Service Plus — incorporates education and research into efforts to improve the lives of the people in other countries, including Haiti, Kenya, Nicaragua and Mexico.
