Razan Alfakir, a doctoral student in the department of speech, language, and hearing sciences, received the UF International Center’s Alec Courtelis Award.

Jacob Ball, a doctoral student in epidemiology, and Salah Uddin Khan, a doctoral student in the department of environmental and global health, were among just three American participants chosen to attend a Center of Excellence for the study of Biodiversity in Amazonia workshop held in Mexico.

Nicole Cranley, a doctoral student in the department of behavioral science and community health, was accepted into Alpha Epsilon Lambda, a national honor society of graduate and professional students.

Karishma Chhabria and Erica Kiernan, doctoral students in the department of behavioral science and community health, were awarded third place for their poster presentation at the Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium Conference.

Makyba Charles, a doctoral student in the department of environmental and global health, won the Student Merit Award from the Society for Risk Analysis’ Exposure Assessment Specialty Group.

Loren Hizel, a doctoral student in the department of clinical and health psychology, received a Florida Society of Neurology Platform Research Award.

Jessie King, a doctoral student in the department of behavioral science and community health, received the 2015 Graduate Student Research Paper Award from the Society for Public Health Education. She was also recognized as one of SOPHE’s “30 Under 30.”

Aarthi Madhavan, a doctoral student in the department of speech, language, and hearing sciences, was selected to participate in Lessons for Success, a research mentoring program offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is also the recipient of a New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.

Erika Ortiz, a doctorate of audiology student in the department of speech, language, and hearing sciences, received the 2015 National Hearing Conservation Association Student Conference Award.

Isaac Sia, a rehabilitation science Ph.D. student, was awarded a Graduate Student Scholarship from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.

Several Master of Occupational Therapy students received honors at the Florida Occupational Therapy Association’s annual conference. Terra Mills received the student poster award for scientific rigor. Christen Fechtel was awarded the first FOTA Myra McDaniel scholarship. Kristen Duffield, Rachel Boeche, Amanda Tudeen, Lauren Hew and Kimberly Roach received the Most Dynamic Presentation award.
